The early Betty Swanwick (1915-1989)

Betty Swanwick was a Draughtsman Member of the Royal Academy, but began her career after being tutored by Edward Bawden with these commissioned posters for the London Transport. Most of her career would be focused on more serious watercolor paintings, but I really appreciate these early posters.

I purchased a print of this from pickmix To the Fields, a poster for the London Transport

Safety First, a somewhat macabre poster for the ministry of transport. That's why I love it! I wish I could find a larger image to share, but alas, no. via

Swanwick's artwork featured on the 1973 Genesis album "Selling England by the Pound" is representative of her later style.
